Privacy Policy

BuildMatch is a New York-based homeowner and contractor marketplace. This notice describes data handled by BuildMatch when you use its homeowner and contractor marketplace. Privacy questions and requests can be sent to buildmatchco@yahoo.com.

1. Information you provide

• Account information: name, email address, account role, and sign-in credentials handled by our authentication service.
• Contractor information: company name, trade, service area and ZIP codes, experience, description, contact details, website, licensing and insurance details, profile approval submissions, and alert preferences.
• Marketplace content: project details, location information you enter, budgets, timelines, photos, quotes, messages, project status, ratings, and reviews.
• Support communications: information you send when requesting help, corrections, account closure, or privacy assistance.

2. Payments and technical information

Stripe handles payment details entered on its checkout and billing pages. BuildMatch stores customer and subscription identifiers and subscription status information to manage Pro access. Full card numbers and bank account numbers are not collected by BuildMatch’s application forms.

Authentication uses cookies or similar browser storage to maintain sessions and complete sign-in and password recovery. Hosting and service providers may process technical information such as IP addresses, browser information, request logs, and errors while operating and securing the service. Blocking or clearing authentication storage can affect sign-in and recovery.

BuildMatch currently does not use Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, or advertising trackers. Authentication storage and technical information used by our service providers are described above.

BuildMatch records signed-in homeowner profile views, limited to one per homeowner and contractor per UTC day, to provide private aggregate contractor analytics. Contractors receive counts, not viewer identities. Quote and inquiry summaries use existing marketplace records. Portfolio photos hosted externally are loaded from the contractor’s chosen image host, which may receive technical request information.

3. How information is used

Information is used to create and manage accounts, display profiles and projects, match projects by trade and ZIP code, deliver in-app lead alerts, process quotes, support conversations and reviews, manage contractor profile approval, manage subscriptions, respond to support requests, and protect the service against abuse.

4. Visibility and sharing

Public contractor profiles and reviews may be visible to visitors. Posted project information is available to eligible marketplace users. Quotes and conversations are shared with the participants who need them for the relevant project or conversation. Avoid including passwords, payment details, or unnecessary sensitive information in profiles, photos, projects, reviews, or messages.

Authorized administrators can access information needed for profile approval, support, and moderation. Providers supporting the service include Supabase for authentication, database and file storage, Vercel for hosting, and Stripe for billing. These providers process information for their services under their own applicable terms and privacy notices.

Information may also be disclosed when required by law or necessary to address fraud, security incidents, or threats to safety.

5. Your choices and requests

You can update available profile fields and change priority lead alert preferences from your account. Use the billing portal to manage a subscription. To request access to, correction of, or deletion of account information, email support from the address associated with your account. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request. Do not email your password or reset link.

Your privacy rights depend on applicable law. Some records may need to be retained for billing, legal obligations, fraud prevention, or ongoing disputes. Information already shared with another user may remain in that user’s records. An account deletion request does not by itself cancel recurring billing; also cancel through the billing portal or ask support for help.

6. Storage and security

Data is stored by the providers used to operate BuildMatch. Retention depends on the purpose of the record and operational or legal needs. BuildMatch uses authentication and access controls to restrict account and conversation access. No internet service can guarantee absolute security; report suspected account misuse to support promptly.

7. Children, external links, and updates

BuildMatch is intended for adults aged 18 and older. Contact support if you believe a child has submitted personal information. Contractor websites and external billing services have their own privacy practices. Changes to this notice will be posted with a revised date.
